Sheffield Wednesday: Three ups and one down from the Owls' 2-1 win over Ipswich Town

Instant impact from the striker who hadn't played since the opening day of the season because of a groin injury. It took him 16 minutes to mark his return with a goal and he popped up with the crucial second just when Sheffield Wednesday needed him to. His pace sees him win possession at times when he has no right to and makes defenders hurry when they don't want to.

 

THE TURNAROUND

Defeat, draw, defeat. Now win, win. Wednesday have put their poor Championship start behind them with two victories in four days. Manager Jos Luhukay has trusted in youth while key men like Barry Bannan and Adam Reach have led the revival. There are some big names on the bench. Luhukay isn't scared to shake things up and has sent out the right message: perform and you're in.

 

JORDAN THORNILEY

Not the tallest, not the quickest, just a very tidy footballer who generally makes the right decisions - and that's not a bad quality to have when you're just 21. He doesn't stand out in any one area but does everything well. He tackles, heads, passes, competes and reads a game. There'll be mistakes along the way no doubt. Have patience. There's some real promise in this young lad.

 

ATDHE NUHIU

The centre-forward who ended last season in the hottest form of his life has yet to fire in this campaign. He scored in the first game of the season at Wigan Athletic but since that early strike his contribution has come in fits and starts. More is expected and needed from the big man who had very little impact against Ipswich.
