Sheffield Wednesday: '˜Three or four' new additions will boost Owls says Ross Wallace

This has been a topic of debate among supporters and pundits alike as the dust continues to settle from Wednesday’s defeat to Hull City in the Championship play-off final.

The overall consensus seems to be all outfield areas need some attention as the Owls prepare for another assault on promotion.

Play-off semi-final goal hero Ross Wallace believes ‘three or four’ additions will be enough to bolster the Wednesday squad this summer.

Wallace is confident the foundation from the current group of players is strong and there is still plenty of improvement in the squad.

“This team was only put together nine months ago,” the Scottish winger said.

“We have come on leaps and bounds over the last eight or nine months.

“If we can keep progressing and add three or four players to what we have already got, we can do really well.

“It has come together really well and we’ve got a style of play that we really enjoy as players.

“Hopefully next year we can develop that, improve and go a step further.

“We’re going to go for it next year.

“We have got a good young squad who are coming into the peak of their careers.”

The 31-year-old believes it is too soon to begin talking about automatic promotion being the primary aim for Wednesday next season.

But he praised the ambition of owner Dejphon Chansiri and says he expects head coach Carlos Carvalhal to receive further backing in the transfer market.

Wallace said: “I’ve no doubt the manager will be looking at adding two or three players for next year to make us stronger.

“We’re looking forward to it.

“We need to see what the manager does with the squad of players and who be brings in.

“I’m sure he’s got a little bit of movement. He’s got the financial backing.

“The owner has been outstanding. He’s put his money where his mouth is. He has really stumped up the money to get players in like Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri.

“The club has come a long way.

“Come the start of the season, we would have bit your hand off to come to Wembley.

“It is just disappointing as players and staff because we really wanted to get the job done.”
