The first defeat at Hillsborough to Sheffield United since 2006 was an early low point, as was the inability to find the back of the net regularly.

Carlos Carvalhal lost his job before 2017 was out with the largely unknown Jos Luhukay drafted in as the replacement.

The Owls were 15th when Carvalhal departed. By the middle of March they had dropped to 17th and had begun looking over their shoulder.

Six wins from the final nine games, however, has injected optimism as Luhukay looks to put his stamp on the team further.

Positives could also be gleamed by the emergence of Jordan Thorniley, the consistency of Adam Reach and the strong finish to the season for Fernando Forestieri and Atdhe Nuhiu.
