Atdhe Nuhiu has given a glowing endorsement of Carlos Carvalhal's management style, claiming the Owls chief's high standards have brought the best out of the team.

Carvalhal, a surprise choice to succeed Stuart Gray last summer, has silenced his critics, having turned Wednesday into genuine promotion contenders.

The Owls, who travel to Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup tomorrow, are unbeaten in 2016 and occupy the final Championship play-off spot.

Four-goal Nuhiu, who could spearhead Wednesday’s attack at the Greenhous Meadow, told The Star: “Carlos is a perfectionist.

“He likes people to work hard for him and do things in the right way. In training, you need to give everything. We have some great characters in the team and every player challenges each other and that’s why we are successful at the moment.”

Buoyed after penning a new two-and-half-year contract at Hillsborough, Nuhiu says he is enjoying working under Carvalhal.

“I have a special relationship with the manager and that makes everything good,” he said. “He believes in me and I believe in him. He knows how to use my qualities. That’s why I’m happy he wanted to keep me but it shows I must have done something right or he would not have come to this conclusion.”

Nuhiu added: “You don’t manage big clubs like Besiktas or Sporting Lisbon if your not a top level manager. People need to give Carlos a lot of credit for what we have achieved. We play as a team but he is the leader. We just try to follow his orders.”

Carvalhal is set to make wholesale changes against the Shrews. Nuhiu, Lucas Joao, Liam Palmer, Jose Semedo and Modou Sougou could all get run-outs.

The Portuguese boss stayed silent on their injury situation, saying: “We will see what players we can recover. We don’t want to give any information to outside. We are very optimistic about all the players who have had pain in the last few weeks.”
