Sheffield Wednesday: Straight back to work for Owls as focus begins on arresting slide in form

Carlos Carvalhal has the majority of his players back in training tomorrow to begin work on fixing the issues that have stunted Sheffield Wednesday's play-off hopes.

The Owls have won just once in their last six games and lost a crucial match against Reading on Friday night.

However, they continue to cling on to sixth place, thanks to Fulham's inability to take advantage. The seventh-placed side dropped points in each of their last two games, which has prevented the Cottagers from leap-frogging Wednesday into the play-off positions.

Now Carvalhal will use the break to work on ways to turn around their fortunes before a return to action in the South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley at Oakwell in just under two weeks time.

Missing from the sessions will be Barry Bannan, Steven Fletcher and Jordan Rhodes who are international duty.

There are also a number of injuries that look to be clearing up and the period without a game will be used to try and get those, particularly Sam Hutchinson, Gary Hooper, Fernando Forestieri and Ross Wallace, back up to fitness again.

"It will be normal like we have done in the past," said Carvalhal. "We will be back for training on Monday and have a week of training."

He added: "It is very good to us is the international break with the problems we have in the team and with the injuries. It will be a very good time to us. We will recover players to be more strong. We believe in this international break we will recover some players who are injured and we will be ready for the final eight games to try and achieve a good position."
