Hirst, the son of Owls legend David, had the Young Lions 2-0 up at half time with a double haul in the 17th and 24th minutes in their second game of the Algarve Tournament.

However, Germany hit back in the second half and after Ipswich keeper Nick Hayes had saved a penalty, they scored twice late on, the equaliser coming from Leipzig's Renat Dadashov in stoppage time.
