Sheffield Wednesday: Shrewsbury boss confident of cup upset

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon says the League One strugglers are more than capable of getting a result against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup this afternoon.

The Shrews sit just a point clear of the third tier drop zone as they welcome Wednesday to Greenhous Meadow for the fourth round tie.

Results have proved all or nothing for Mellon’s side this season with only five of their 28 league games drawn.

And that has been frustrating for the Scotsman.

“Knowing us, we’re capable of anything – by that I mean one extreme or the other,” Mellon said. “We’re still working on that.

“We know what we’re capable of. We know we’re well capable of getting a result.”

While league matters may be a major concern for the Shrews, they have performed well in the cup so far this season.

They beat Blackburn Rovers away in the first round of the Capital One Cup and knocked Cardiff City out in the last stage of the FA Cup.

And Mellon admits he is looking forward to the chance of claiming a third Championship scalp against Wednesday this afternoon.

He said: “It’s a fantastic tie. They’re a massive football club.

“They’re doing fantastic in the division they’re in.

“It’s all there for us. It’s a great challenge.

“We seem to be able to find a way of getting results in the cup.”
