Sheffield Wednesday: Sam Hutchinson aims for top-six Owls finish

Sam Hutchinson is convinced Sheffield Wednesday will secure a top-six finish come the end of the season, despite their stuttering recent form.

The Owls, last season's Play-Off finalists, have slipped to 10th in the Championship table following back-to-back defeats.

But Hutchinson, speaking on the EFL Weekly podcast this week, is adamant Wednesday will be in the running to go up.

"We will finish in the play-offs," insisted the former Chelsea youngster, who has been switched from central midfield to centre-back this season. He believes that is a more realistic target for Wednesday than going up automatically. They currently trail leaders Newcastle United by 13 points after 16 matches.

Despite being roared on by over 40,000 supporters at Wembley, Wednesday were beaten 1-0 courtesy of Mo Diame's stunning second half strike.

"I was ready to retire at Chelsea but I wasn't ready to lose the Play-Off Final.

"Our fans were so good on the day.

"When I retired, it was me and my family who were hurt but so many people got hurt on that day. It was just horrible.

"We just didn't hit the heights. It was unfortunate but Hull deserved to go up and fair play to them."

Hutchinson has played 14 times this season, scoring once.
