Sheffield Wednesday ready for stern tests
Sheffield Wednesday's tough-looking run of fixtures after the international break will be a "good indicator" of how their season will pan out.
That's the opinion of Owls captain Tom Lees as the team continue to enjoy some well-earned time off.
Wednesday face promotion hopefuls Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion over the upcoming month.Â
But Lees says the Owls, who currently occupy 11th position, are in good shape following a three-match winning streak. Wednesday have made their best start to a campaign since chairman Dejphon Chansiri purchased the club, picking up 10 points from six league outings.
Speaking before the unique '˜All Wednesday' film at the Showroom Cinema last night, Lees said: "We have never really started well and it was something we wanted to do. The fixtures have been a little bit favourable.
"We know in the coming month we have really stern fixtures which will be a good indicator for us."
The defender told a packed audience that league victories over Millwall, Ipswich Town and Reading has "done a lot for confidence".
However, Lees accepts the Owls are going through a "bit of transition" but was keen to stress: "You haven't got any time to make excuses."
Lees, coach Lee Bullen and academy manager Steven Haslam attended the '˜All Wednesday' premiere, which rounded off their 150th anniversary celebrations.
BBC broadcaster Mark Clemmit hosted the sold out show, interviewing Lees and director Matt Exton on stage before the showing.
The film, produced and directed by Wednesdayite Exton in partnership with the Owls, featured a range of interviews and stories from supporters of all ages about their affinity with the club.
Exton was given a standing ovation at the end.
It was a superb, poignant and, at times, moving piece of work which perfectly encapsulated the highs and lows of being a Wednesdayite. The one-off event was a fitting way to wrap up their 150th anniversary.
