Daniel Pudil accepts the Owls can ill afford to keep playing catch-up in matches if they are to mount a serious promotion tilt.

For the 10th time in 16 Championship games, Carlos Carvalhal’s side conceded the opening goal in Saturday’s defeat against Ipswich Town.

“We are giving ourselves too much to do by going behind in games,” the left-back told The Star. “If you always go behind, it is hard to keep on coming back into games.

“We have to learn from the Ipswich game and move on as we have many games in the future.”

Czech Republic international Pudil admits the Owls’ display last weekend left a lot to be desired.

The 31-year-old said: “It wasn’t our best performance of the season.

“We have to move the ball quicker. We were very slow from the back. Sometimes we missed really easy passes.

“When we equalised, I think the game was there for us. We had a big chance in the second half with Gary Hooper and the keeper saved it. If that had gone in, the game is completely different.

“It didn’t go in and we should have taken at least a point.”

He added: “We didn’t play a really bad game. We kept the ball and created a few chances.

“We gave away two sloppy goals but credit to Ipswich. They kept going and won the game.

“We have to keep our heads up and keep on going.”

Centre-forward Atdhe Nuhiu missed out due to illness.
