Sheffield Wednesday: Owls wait on Hutchinson

Sheffield Wednesday will give Sam Hutchinson as much time as possible to prove his fitness for their encounter with Queens Park Rangers.

Hutchinson has sat-out the last two fixtures after sustaining a knee injury in the Owls' come-from-behind success at Birmingham City earlier this month.

Carlos Carvalhal, the Wednesday head coach, confirmed the utility player came through today's training session unscathed but will be assessed again before tomorrow's Championship clash at Hillsborough, kick-off 7:45pm.

Speaking to the press corps this afternoon, Carvalhal said: "Let's see on Sam. He is training but has a small pain. We must wait until tomorrow to make the final decision."

"Sam has played a lot of games this season," he added. "He hurt his knee at Birmingham. He received a kick which opened up his knee.

"He is playing very well and gives a lot of energy to the team. He is an important player but all of the players are important."

Everton loanee Aiden McGeady is in contention to be included in the match-day squad, having shrugged off his minor problem.

Carvalhal said: "Aiden is training normal and can be in the 18 if we need him."

With Fernando Forestieri ruled out following his red card in the Owls' loss at Preston North End last weekend, Lucas Joao is in line for a first-team recall.
