The midfield playmaker was forced off in Tuesday's 2-0 Hillsborough triumph over Barnsley due to a long-standing foot injury.
Speaking at his press briefing today, boss Carlos Carvalhal said: "It is not a question of Barry being tired or not. He's playing with some pain. "He has a very strange pain as it sometimes comes and sometimes disappears during training and in games.
"We have rested him in the last few days. He has not trained because we want him to rest his foot and after we will take the decision whether to use him or not on Saturday understanding he will be with a small pain. "We are trying to manage the situation."
The Star understands Almen Abdi has resumed first-team training following a hamstring problem and could be involved this weekend. However, Fernando Forestieri will serve the final match of his three-game ban.
Will Buckley (shoulder), Urby Emanuelson (ankle) and Gary Hooper (hamstring) remain on the sidelines.
