Sheffield Wednesday: Owls urged to guard against complacency

Full-back Liam Palmer has warned his teammates not to take Charlton Athletic for granted this afternoon, despite the London club's precarious league position.

The Addicks lie second-from-bottom and five points adrift of safety after a turbulent campaign. A three-match unbeaten run has increased the chances of Jose Riga’s side pulling clear from the drop zone.

Charlton will also fancy their chances of picking up a positive result in South Yorkshire, having already beaten Wednesday this season. They triumphed 3-1 at The Valley and haven’t tasted defeat in their last six meetings with the Owls.

Palmer said: “Charlton showed down at their place what a good side they can be on the day and fully deserved the three points.

“It’s a tight league, and they are coming off a good win against Middlesbrough. Nobody saw that coming before the game.

“We have a good record at home, we need to show Rotherham was a blip, and bounce straight back.

“A factor this season has been when we have had disappointing results, we can bounce back, play with a bit of anger and disappointment that we have let ourselves down. Even when we not playing at our best, we have players who can make things happen, out of the blue, that’s what’s exciting about this team.”

Meanwhile, Owls striker Lucas Joao has been selected in the Portugal Under-23 squad in a warm-up match for the Olympic Games, which take place in Rio this summer. Portugal take on Mexico on March 28.
