After a two-week break, Carlos Carvalhal’s troops return to league action on Saturday, taking on mid-table Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

With eight matches left of the regular season, the Owls are well-placed to secure a play-off spot. They currently sit in sixth position, three points clear of seventh-placed Cardiff City.

Wildsmith, who featured in Wednesday’s Under-21s victory at home to Huddersfield yesterday, told The Star: “Morale is high in the camp and everyone believes with eight games to go that we can do it.

“We are confident we can finish in the top six. It is in our hands. If we keep winning, we will stay sixth or possibly higher. We are not waiting on other teams to slip up which is a nice position to be in.

“You would rather it be in your hands than not at this stage of the season. It is down to us.

“But we are taking it game by game. Our focus is now on Huddersfield. If we can win that, hopefully we will increase the gap between ourselves and the seventh-placed team.”
