Luhukay freshened up his team for the trip to Villa Park, making five alterations to the side who lost 2-1 against Nottingham Forest.

The Dutchman, who exchanged "some harsh words" with his players prior to the Villa fixture, also made a bold call to change their formation from 4-2-3-1 to 3-5-2. His tactics and personnel rejig paid off as the Owls put in their best performance of the campaign.

Matias, who notched his third goal of the season, told The Star: "The manager deserves the credit. He believes in the team so all the credit goes to him.

"He has his ideas and it took a bit time for the players to get the new ideas after [Carlos] Carvalhal but I think we are now in a good way.

"The most important thing is we are doing what he wants so I think we are in a perfect way."

Midfielder John McGinn's spectacular left foot volley cancelled out Matias' 49th minute opener.

But Wednesday secured maximum points thanks to Steven Fletcher's bullet header.

Fletcher, preferred up front to Atdhe Nuhiu, has bagged two goals in as many matches.

Matias said: "I'm happy for him. He is working very hard. When we work hard, the goals come much easier."

Next up for the Owls is a televised showdown with Championship leaders Leeds United. Fernando Forestieri will be available for selection, having completed a three-match suspension.
