The versatile player was taken off mid-way through the first half of Saturday’s dramatic away win at Birmingham City because of a knee problem. Over the last 48 hours, Hutchinson has been receiving treatment from the Owls’ medical staff as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday’s Hillsborough showdown with Brentford.

Injuries have troubled Hutchinson throughout his career but the 26-year-old has flourished this season, chalking up 25 appearances in all competitions. His previous best in a campaign was 20 matches.

“I think Sam has been told so many times in his career that he can’t train today or that he has to protect himself but we have we have pushed him a little more and it’s the most games he has ever started in a season.”
