Wednesday yesterday beat strong competition from relegated Norwich City to land the signature of Scotland international striker Steven Fletcher on a four-year deal.

But a reported bid of £11.5m by Wednesday for his fellow Scottish forward McCormack has been rejected by Fulham.

The Cottagers paid Leeds United almost £11m for McCormack two years ago and are apparently keen to more than make their money back on the 29-year-old.

According to national newspaper reports, Fulham want £15m for the striker, who scored 23 goals in 49 appearances for a side that struggled last season.

A potential arrival for McCormack would give head coach Carlos Carvalhal plenty of attacking options after the signing of Fletcher.

The 29-year-old was released by Sunderland at the end of last season after finishing the season on loan at French giants Marseille.

He will compete with first choice strike pair Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri for a starting berth.

Forwards Atdhe Nuhiu, Lucas Joao and Sergiu Bus are also on the Owls’ books.

Fletcher had reportedly been offered around £30,000 a week by Norwich City before opting to join Wednesday.

Celtic, Aston Villa and Hull City had also been linked with the striker.

Fellow Scotsman Barry Bannan welcomed Fletcher to Hillsborough, tweeting: “Buzzing to see Fletch has signed for us. Great guy and top player.”

The Owls’ home clash with Reading has been brought forward a day to Friday, March 17 with a 7.45pm kick off due to a clash with Sheffield United’s game with Charlton Athletic at Bramall Lane.
