Jack Hunt says the Owls 'owe' head coach Carlos Carvalhal and their long-suffering supporters a big performance when they go to Derby County this weekend.

More than 4,700 Wednesdayites watched the Championship club lose 2-1 to bottom club Bolton Wanderers last Saturday.

It was the Owls’ third defeat in four matches and a big section of the fan-base have lost patience with Carvalhal. Some chanted for the Portuguese chief to be axed in the dying embers of Saturday’s clash.

Full-back Hunt admits Wednesday are going through a “bad spell” but remains confident they can turnaround their fortunes.

“We were all massively frustrated with our performance at Bolton,” he told The Star. “It was simply not good enough.

“It was a big chance for us to put back-to-back wins together.

“Everyone is disappointed with how results have been going. We are going through a bad spell but everyone is pulling together, working hard and looking to turn things around quickly.

“Believe me, we are just disappointed as the fans. We don’t want to send anyone home unhappy.

“It would be nice to repay them as the travelling support has been fantastic since I’ve been at the club.”

Carvalhal has received plenty of criticism following the team’s poor run but Hunt insists the players have let him down.

He said: “Obviously, every manager is the leader of the camp but the facts are we, as a team, are not performing. I say blame us not the manager.

“We are out there on the pitch, not him. We have to take responsibility.”

Wednesday have slipped to 12th in the table after picking up just one win from their last five outings.

“We owe a lot of people a result at the weekend,” stressed Hunt.

“I’m not saying that will definitely come at Derby but we have to go out there, put in a good performance and see where that takes us.

“It is up to us to get ourselves out of this situation.”
