Sheffield Wednesday: Owls have received '˜no contact' over Keiren Westwood, says Jos Luhukay
Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay insists the Championship club have yet to receive contact from any club regarding Keiren Westwood.
The experienced goalkeeper, a key figure in the Owls’ the play-off finishes over the past two years, has been heavily linked with a move away from Hillsborough this week.
One national newspaper claimed Southampton are interested in recruiting Westwood this summer.
Westwood, who is currently recovering from a long-standing groin injury, is also reportedly on the radar of Leeds United, Celtic and Rangers.
But speaking at his press briefing today, Luhukay said: “Nobody has contacted us.
“At this moment, Keiren is a couple of months not available for us. So he’s now working hard and intensively to come back. What the future brings us we will see.”
Injury has restricted Westwood, who has a year left on his Wednesday contract, to just 18 league appearances during the 2017/18 season. His last outing came at Norwich City back in December.
In his absence, Joe Wildsmith has impressed while Cameron Dawson, another gruadate from the club’s youth system, has deputised on the bench and in the FA Cup.
Republic of Ireland international Westwood will miss the final three matches of this term but Luhukay expects the 33-year-old to be ready in time for the start of pre-season training.
He said: “Keiren is now working on recovery so I think it is normally no problem; he will be 100 per cent fit for pre-season.”
