"I'm not naive enough to think that's not the case," said Bruce after second-half goals from Marco Matias and Steven Fletcher had condemned his side to their first home Championship defeat of the season.

"It's not up to me. You'll have to ask others about that."

The Owls, showing five changes from the side that had lost at Nottingham Forest in midweek, deserved the victory which lifted them to 10th in the table.

"It was a huge disappointment," Bruce added. "We didn't play well on the day. We didn't move the ball quickly enough.

"When you have five, six, seven players below par, it's a difficult afternoon for everybody. It was one of those awful afternoons.

"We weren't good enough and we have to accept it and move on. In a game of football, it's not a given that you play well every week. Only the great ones do that.

"Today we played a very, very good Sheffield Wednesday side."
