As revealed by The Star at the beginning of June, the Owls broke past 17,000 sales, smashing their previous record.

However, with the ‘early bird’ pricing coming to an end tonight at midnight, it is believed that the number of supporters taking up the offer could go past 20,000.

To put that into context, Wednesday’s average gate at Hillsborough last season was a little under 23,000.

The club say that over 5,500 new season tickets have been processed and that figure is expected to rise considerably in the final day.

The large uptake comes off the back of an impressive season in which Wednesday defied the odds by making it through to the Play-Off Final where they eventually lost out to Hull City at Wembley.

Around 40,000 Owls fans made the trip to London and many more would have done had they been able to get a ticket for the game.

While the players disappointed on the big stage, supporters certainly didn’t with the huge number earning praise for the atmosphere they created at the national stadium. That was also evident in the final crucial couple of games at Hillsborough at the end of the season.

A big crowd turned out for the game against Cardiff which clinched a place in the play-offs, while the first leg against Brighton brought about an electric experience, the likeof which many fans said hadn’t been felt at the ground in many years.

Now it appears as though that kind of atmosphere could be a regular occurrence as supporters flock to be a part of a continued rejuvination. Tickets are priced at £445 adults, £255 concessions, £150 Under 17s and £75 U11s on the Kop. Call 03700 201867 (option one).
