Sheffield Wednesday: 'Owls could be in Wolves' position but for injuries' says Hillsborough star Barry Bannan

Barry Bannan says this weekend could have been party time for Sheffield Wednesday had they not been struck down by so many devastating injuries.

The Owls head to Molineux on Saturday aiming to gatecrash Wolves' title-winning celebrations and perhaps prove a point themselves, that they remain one of the division's big-hitters.

And Bannan, who was one of a huge number of players to have missed large parts of the campaign through injury, firmly believes that Wednesday can see off a team that have lost just six times this season and are on course to break the 100-point barrier.

"We are a big team, and if we could have kept everyone fit this season it might have been us partying," said Bannan. "But it’s not, so fair play to Wolves. They have been brilliant all season and deserve it.

"But we will be going there on Saturday confident we can turn them over. Going to Wolves is a motivation for anyone. We are going to the so-called best team in the league."

Bannan says Wednesday will not be caught up in the occasion of Wolves' trophy presentation.

"I know for a fact that we can go there and win, with what we have in the changing room," he added. "We are good enough to go and beat them.

"It is a game which everyone is looking forward to. They will have a party, probably get the trophy being their last home game of the season. But it won’t be a party for us, we will concentrate on getting three points and finish the season on a high."
