Sheffield Wednesday owe the fans a big performance against Reading, admits Barry Bannan

That's the view of Owls star Barry Bannan as the Championship club target their first league win on the road this season.

Wednesday have so far struggled on their travels, suffering defeats at new boys Wigan Athletic and Brentford. Their only victory away from Hillsborough came in the cup against Sunderland.

The Owls, boosted by the loan signings of Michael Hector and Josh Onomah, will be cheered on by 2,200 supporters in Berkshire as they chase a third straight Championship victory.

"We owe ourselves more than anything a strong performance," Bannan told The Star. "It is all about us.

"The fans have been first class this season. They travelled up to Sunderland on a Thursday night in their numbers and we have sold out nearly every away allocation this season. 

"That doesn't go amiss for us and is something that has been spoken about in the past few weeks in the changing room.

"We know they are coming in their thousands (to Reading) so we are going to try for us and them to get a positive result and send them home happy."

Three would points would take Wednesday up to double figures heading into the first international break.

Bannan, who signed a new three-year contract extension earlier this week, said: "We started off really sluggish. Maybe after the first two or three games we would have snapped your hands off for 10 points.

"We have picked up in the last couple of games and we are looking forward to the Reading game. 

"It is another big game but if we can get the victory and go to 10 points it's not as bad a start as everyone was making out."

The Royals lie in the relegation zone after collecting just two points from five outings.

"We know it is going to be a tough game," said Bannan. "Any game away from home in this league is always tough. 

"We know it is going to be a battle so we need to be ready for it. We will go there confident and it is a game we will go and try and win. 

"We know we are more than capable of winning it so we have to go there confident and have a right go and see if we can get the three points. 

"We have not won away this season apart from at Sunderland so if we can get a win away from home early doors then it builds your confidence for the rest of the season.

"Three wins back to back in this league is massive and it will push us up the table and we will be looking upwards rather than downwards."
