Luhukay, the Owls manager, said: "The meetings and the conversations are there so we make no pressure.

"I'm positive that the club and Matt make in the next few weeks a decision."

Penney has been a revelation since making his Owls debut as a substitute in their Carabao Cup triumph at Sunderland two months ago. The 20-year-old has given Wednesday some much-needed pace and energy in the wide positions and he has shown his versatility by playing left-back, left wing and as part of a three-man attack.

The Owls, who host fourth-placed Middlesbrough tomorrow, have yet to lose any of the eight league matches Penney has started.

Luhukay said: "I hope that Matt sees his future here with Sheffield Wednesday. Matt was far away from the first-team two years ago but now he is completely in and plays every game.

"From the sport direction, he's a in a very positive way.

"We have given him in the last two months really good chances to come to us, to make positive progression and he's not only in the team he's a first 11 player now, so what more do you want as a young player?

"Hopefully he will see his future with us."
