Carlos Carvalhal’s troops agonisingly missed out on going up last campaign, losing 1-0 to Hull City in the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley.

Having fallen at the final hurdle, Carvalhal is planning on bringing in reinforcements to make the Owls stronger over the summer but has ruled out a “revolution” at Hillsborough. The Portuguese head coach is seeking to increase the options and quality at his diposal.

For Wednesday to go one better next time around, Sterland believes the club must bring in two defenders, a midfielder and centre forward.

“The manager will know where he needs to strengthen and I’m sure the chairman will put more money into the football club this summer,” Sterland told The Star. “Carlos has been in football a long, long time.

“He has a good bunch of lads and got the team playing some good football. We just need a bit more quality in certain positions.

“Carlos only needs to add four more players to the squad and we will be looking very strong again.”

Sterland hopes the final defeat to Hull will act as a movitation to the side for next term.

“We did well to get to the final but we were disappointing on the day,” he said. “We played well all season and worked hard to get there. We just didn’t turn up and play like we can on the big stage.

“The fans were magnificent but the players didn’t perform. Hopefully they will learn from it and push on.”
