Sheffield Wednesday: No squad revolution planned by Carlos Carvalhal

The Wednesday head coach will this week begin work on improving his squad for next season, following Saturday’s Championship play-off final defeat to Hull City at Wembley Stadium.

But he says there will not be the huge influx of players to Hillsborough which characterised last summer.

“We don’t need a revolution but we will try to improve the team,” Carvalhal said.

“We know all of our players very well.

“We know which positions we need one or another player.

“The players we try to bring in will give us more options and quality.

“We will do our job now with the time we have.

“We will start preparing for next season and try to be more strong.”

Carvalhal says he has received assurances from owner Dejphon Chansiri that Wednesday’s best players will not be sold this summer.

But he insists he would not be fazed if a star man was to depart.

He said: “If these kind of things happen, to me it is not a problem because we know we are here to try to bring the best players to Sheffield Wednesday and that’s normal in football.

“If you sell one player, you try to bring in another one that is better.

“We haven’t had any technical meetings about next season yet because we did not know which competition we would be playing in.

“We will now start work again.

“I will sit with my staff and we will start preparing for next season now that we know which competition we will play.

“We will try to choose good players.

“We don’t have much work to do at home because most of the players are under contract so we will try to improve the team to do better in the future.”

Wednesday are due to announce their retained list in the coming days.
