Reach came through the ranks at the Teeside club, racking up over 60 appearances for the Championship outfit.

But he left Boro in August 2016, moving to Sheffield Wednesday in a then club-record £5m switch.

Reach is looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces when the Owls welcome high-flying Boro to Hillsborough this Friday but says his main priority is helping Wednesday maintain their improved form.

Speaking to the Owls' club website, Reach said: "It is not the first time I have come up against them (Middlesbrough). We played them a couple of times last season.

"It is always nice (to play them) because there are still a few players who are there when I was there. I'm sure there are a few of the backroom staff I will have a chat with but I'm passed that point now of where I feel any sentimental value or looking for revenge or anything like that.

"It is just another game that where if I do play I want to go out and put a good performance in and take three points."

Only three points separate the Owls and fourth-placed Middlesbrough in the table.

"It's another good test for us," said Reach. "I think we have shown everyone, not just the fans, that we can match those (top) teams and, at some points, outplay them."

Jos Luhukay's men moved into the play-off positions after claiming a hard-fought victory over Bristol City before the international break. The result stretched their unbeaten streak to four matches.

Reach said: "I think we are in a good place. We have come up against the top sides and held our own.

"It's a big achievement if we can stay in the top six over the weekend. People say the Middlesbrough game is the last one of a tough run of fixtures but any game is tough in the Championship. We have got another tough run coming up.

"If we can start that next period in the top six, I think that will give everyone some confidence."
