It was less than a week ago that Fletcher became Wednesday’s first summer signing, penning a four-year contract following his release by Premier League side Sunderland.

The Owls beat off strong competition from Norwich City to land Fletcher, who spent the end of last season on loan with French giants Marseille.

The 29-year-old, who has totalled transfer fees of £15m in his career, notched 23 goals in 108 appearances for the Black Cats. Fletcher has also previously plied his trade at Hibernian, Burnley and Wolves.

Having trained with his new teammates for the first time this week, Fletcher could be handed his first Wednesday run-out in their pre-season friendly opener at Alfreton Town next week.

Fresh from penning a new one-year contract, Semedo told The Telegraph: “Fletcher is a fantastic player and will bring goals. He’s a top, top finisher. He has the qualities to be the main man for us.

“To see someone come in from a Premier League club is a beautiful thing.

“Fletcher has settled in very quickly. He can be a very important player for us and will complement the other strikers have in Nando [Fernando Forestieri], Gary Hooper, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao.”

Long-serving midfielder Semedo, meanwhile, is delighted to have extended his Owls stay.

“I’m so happy,” said Semedo, who moved to Hillsborough in 2011. “I am where I want to be.

“I had quite a few offers but my intention was always to stay here.

“I never imagined myself wearing another colour of shirt like red, white or black.

“I will always be white and blue.”
