Sheffield Wednesday: Morgan Fox boost for the Owls

Morgan Fox is edging closer to a first-team return, Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed.

The left-back missed Saturday’s triumph at Nottingham Forest, having twisted his ankle against Blackburn Rovers last week.

But speaking at his press call today, Carvalhal refused to rule out the possibility of Fox featuring at home to Brentford tomorrow.

Carvalhal said: “He has started running today which is something very positive. Let’s see how he is tomorrow.”

The Wednesday chief offered no hints on when Tom Lees, who has sat-out their last four fixtures, will be available for selection again.

However, striker Gary Hooper has stepped up his recovery from injury by playing and scoring in the development squad’s 2-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra this afternoon. Urby Emanuelson and Will Buckley were also given valuable game time.

The Owls, who have suffered just one defeat in 12 Championship outings, will be chasing a fifth consecutive victory when they welcome the Bees to Hillsborough tomorrow.

“We respect them a lot,” insisted Carvalhal. “They have conceded 10 goals in the last three matches but have scored seven.

“Brentford are all the time a threat. They have scored three goals against Aston Villa and Brighton and scored two goals against Reading in their last game. They are a team who are scoring goals very easy.

“We must be careful. We must play with our heads and a big heart.

“We know it will be a difficult game but we know exactly what we must do and hopefully we can express this on the pitch.”
