Sheffield Wednesday: Mixed news on the injury front for Owls ahead of Barnsley showdown

Sheffield Wednesday have received mixed news on the injury front ahead of tomorrow's South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.

Midfielder David Jones is pushing for a first-team recall, having shrugged off the calf problem which kept him out of Saturday's trip to Reading. But Almen Abdi (hamstring) and Urby Emanuelson (ankle) face a spell on the sidelines. Abdi, who has struggled to make an impact since moving to Hillsborough back in July, suffered the knock in the Owls' behind-closed-doors victory over Notts County last week. Emanuelson, still waiting to make his Wednesday debut, twisted his ankle in training.

Speaking at his press briefing today, head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: "David is okay. He trained today and felt a good reaction so he can be involved in tomorrow's game."Urby and Abdi are still out with injuries. Abdi has a hamstring injury. He did it in the Notts County. He trained afterwards and he felt a pain so wasn't involved. He's still out of training. I believe he will be back soon."Urby has stayed out of training and is with the medical department. Let's see."

Tomorrow's fixture will come too soon for Will Buckley but Carvalhal is relieved the winger's shoulder injury is not as bad as first feared."Will still has a problem with his shoulder but is progressing well," he said. "He doesn't need surgery which is something that is positive. I can't say when he will be back as you never know. It depends on the players."Will is still in a little bit of pain but it's not as serious as we thought."

Forwards Marco Matias (groin) and Gary Hooper (hamstring) will play no part against a Barnsley side who are in the top half of the Championship following back-to-back victories.Carvalhal said: "Gary Hooper is progressing very well but he will take more time. I don't want to put a limit but I think he will be back soon."Marco is progressing following surgery. I think he will start training with us in one or two weeks. He's moving but he's not yet with us."

Wednesday will be without the services of Fernando Forestieri, who will serve the second of his three-match suspension.
