Sheffield Wednesday have warned fans who bring smoke bombs or flares to games they will be banned ‘indefinitely’ from all Owls matches.
The club said they were determined to stop the use of fireworks and other prohibited items, which have become a problem in recent weeks.
Wednesday said their stewards will be carrying out additional searches of fans when they enter the club’s Hillsborough Stadium and will use CCTV to help to identify those in possession of the items.
A club statement read: “Wednesday are disappointed at the recent trend of a small minority of supporters setting off smoke bombs, flares and fireworks at home and away fixtures.
“The club are determined to eradicate this unacceptable behaviour and will undertake additional searching as well as instructing CCTV operators and stewards to be increasingly vigilant to assist in identifying those in possession of such articles.
“Anyone found in possession of any banned item will receive an indefinite club ban. Such an offence will also lead to arrest by the police, followed by a charge.”
Wednesday host Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough on Saturday.
