The Kosovo international, whose previous deal was set to expire next month, has blossomed under Luhukay’s watchful eye, scoring 13 goals this calendar year.

“Since he [Luhukay] came in, things have slightly changed,” conceded Nuhiu, who was snapped up by Wednesday on a free transfer in July 2013 following his departure from Turkish side Eskisehirspor.. “He likes to work with me and I like to work with him so that played, of course, a big part in it.

“But, apart from that, I have been here five years already.

“It is nice to be in a club where people show their loyalty to people and they know what the club means to me.”

Nuhiu finished the season as Wednesday’s leading marksman, finding the back of the net 14 times in 38 matches.

He said: “The manager and the club has shown that they want me a lot and wanted me to stay at Wednesday.

“For me, from my side, of course, I have also said it in the past that Sheffield Wednesday was the club that opened me the door to come to England and my priority was to stay here, and the manager and the club wanted that as well.

“So, for me, there was no doubt that we could find an agreement. I am very pleased for that.”

On his impressive goal-scoring form, Nuhiu said: “There is no secret.

“When you start to get games your confidence goes high, you’re getting match fit, you start to do things better in the game and, of course, confidence plays a big part in it.

“I can see the manager trusts me and that makes me confident. As a result, the goals have come and we have generally won the game.”
