The Academy graduate put pen to paper on a new contract at Hillsborough earlier this week to extend his deal until the summer of 2019.

The self-confessed Wednesdayite may still only be 25, but he admits he would love to spend the rest of his career in S6.

“I would definitely like that,” he said.

“In football things change quickly and it’s quite rare to see someone being at a club for as long as I have.

“I’m happy here. My friends and family are always here. I watched the club as a kid and came through the Academy.

“Staying here for the rest of my career is something I would like to do, given the opportunity.”

High on Palmer’s agenda during the lifetime of his current deal is to help Wednesday achieve promotion to the top flight.

The Owls currently sit fifth in the Championship, four points off the second automatic promotion slot.

Worksop-born Palmer says there is still plenty more to come from Wednesday this season and, given their position, that is a major positive.

He said: “We’re not really firing on all cylinders but still picking up results.

“That’s a sign of a good team.

“To see where we are in the league now but know there’s still some left in the tank, that’s encouraging for the lads and manager.

“We’re feeling good as a group and we’re on a decent run.

“We came so close to promotion last year.

“To be a part of that was incredible, getting to Wembley. To finish that off now would be something I’d never forget.”

Palmer - who made his senior debut in August 2010 - is pleased to see his contract finalised after talks began earlier in the year.

Given his allegiance to Wednesday, understandably the deal was an easy one to make.

And he says he is excited about what the future could bring for him and the club.

“They wanted to keep me, I wanted to say – it was simple,” he said.

“I’m delighted to get it done and concentrate on playing.

“We have a crop of players, manager and chairman that’s the best I’ve been part of since I came through the ranks.

“It’s great to be a part of.”
