Scott Malone’s 91st-minute equaliser cruelly denied Wednesday maximum points at Craven Cottager after Fernando Forestieri had given them an early lead.

Loovens, restored to the heart of their defence, told The Star: “It feels like two points dropped as we were leading 1-0 after 90 minutes but I feel like there are a lot of positives we can take out of the game.

“We were very good first half and probably should have scored two or three. We created a lot of chances and gave nothing away. We played really well as a team.

“It was always going to be a bit tougher in the second half as they tried to force the issue. We were okay up until the last 10 minutes. We just didn’t play well enough on the ball in the second.

“As a defender, I’m annoyed we didn’t get a clean sheet and the three points.”

The result extended the Owls’ winless run to three matches and Loovens accepts the team have to improve their defensive and offensive play to get their season back on track.

“We’ve not been clinical enough in both ends,” said the former Cardiff City and Celtic defender. “We have not been clnical enough in front of goal and let in some soft goals at the back.

“We do everything as a team whether that’s defending or attacking.

“First and foremost, if we do create chances, we need to be a bit more clinical and kill games off.”
