The Portuguese midfielder this week signed a new one-year deal with Wednesday, potentially extending his stay with the club to six years.

Despite a significant reduction in game time for the Owls last season, Semedo said he had little hesitation in rejecting other offers in order to remain at Hillsborough.

“I had quite a few offers, especially here in England,” he said.

“There were four clubs in England.

“Two were in the Championship and there was also a club interested in the second division of Spain.

“But I always had my mind set on staying here.

“It was just a matter of after the summer finishing the contract.

“It was never in doubt that it would happen.

“It has been a wonderful five years in the blue and white shirt.

“I don’t want to wear another shirt colour like red or white.

“I want to stay here forever.”

Semedo made 16 appearances for Wednesday last season, six of which came in cup competitions. During the previous season, under Stuart Gray, he made 33 appearances.

Former Wednesday defender Will De Havilland – released at the end of last season – is on trial with Football League newcomers Cheltenham Town while ex-development squad midfielder Ryan Croasdale has been training with Morecambe.
