New boy Michael Hector has won praise for his versatility after helping Sheffield Wednesday to victory on his first full Owls outing.

Hector put himself in the frame for another start against Leeds United on Friday with his performance in the 2-1 victory at Aston Villa last Saturday.

The 26-year-old, who has left parent club Chelsea for a season-long loan in South Yorkshire, began as a centre-half at Villa but then found himself thrown into midfield.

"In the second half, Michael had to go from defence into midfield when we changed our formation," manager Jos Luhukay said.

"We changed system two times. Aston Villa began with 4-4-2 and then in the second half changed to 3-4-3 and then after 20 to 25 minutes back to 4-4-2, so Michael was a little bit between the central defence and midfield.

"I think he did a good job and he helped give the team stability."

Hector made his Owls debut as a substitute against Stoke City earlier this month and was called into the side when Jordan Thorniley damaged his calf at Nottingham Forest last Wednesday.

Fellow loan signing Spurs youngster Josh Onomah made his first Owls start against Forest but was dropped to the bench for the Villa Park clash.

"It is not so easy when you come to a new club," said Luhukay. "Last Wednesday was not easy for Josh but we know he and Michael will help us. They have their own quality."
