Although Luhukay is set add to his squad over the summer, the Dutchman insists he intends to carry on placing his faith in youth.

“My hope is every year we can bring one or two academy players into the first team,” said Luhukay.

“I think that’s very important for developing our young players but also our whole academy to give a boost, for all the players who try to come to Sheffield Wednesday from junior teams and maybe make the step to the first team.”

Luhukay, who guided the Owls to a 15th-placed finish, added: “In pre-season, we will have five or six players from Under 23s and U18s (training with us). “Our U23s have had a good season and our under 18s have finished third and that’s positive.

“There are more players with a high potential and they can make progression and I can take players from there.”
