The Owls will be seeking to make a positive start to their Championship campaign when they lock horns with league new boys Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

More than 4,5000 Wednesdayites are set to cheer the team on in Lancashire and Pelupessy hopes they can give their loyal, long-suffering fans something to shout about.

He told The Star: “I’m very positive about this season.

“The fans have been great since I arrived here. They always make a lot of noise and I like that. We need their support. If the stadium is full, it gives us a lot of energy.

“We have to do it together with the fans and that is the most important thing.

“Everybody has to be united. Everybody has to be together.

“We have to stick together through the good and bad times. The season isn’t always going to be positive. There will be times when results don’t go our way. We have to be strong.”

Some Owls fans have voiced their concerns over the club’s lack of transfer business. Boss Jos Luhukay has not dipped into the transfer market and added to his first-team squad this summer.

Pelupessy said: “We have a lot of quality and I see that every day on the training ground.

“All the injured players are getting fit now and back in the squad.

“I think we have a really good squad. If everyone stays fit, I think we can do something nice this season.”
