Sheffield Wednesday: This is how the Owls have fared in recent seasons after the international break

These breaks in the football calendar can interrupt a run of good form or lead to key players getting injured '“ but how has it affected Sheffield Wednesday in recent campaigns?

Heading into the current international break, Jos Luhukay's side have won three successive league fixtures and will face Stoke City at the weekend at Hillsborough.

Championship 2017/18

The international break last September led to an upturn in form for the Owls after they started the season with one win and three draws from the beginning of the league campaign.

Once the break was over however they secured back-to-back wins against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

Championship 2016/17

It was a sluggish start to things back in 2016 when Wednesday were without a win since the opening match of the season against Aston Villa by the time the international break rolled around.

The extra time off was clearly beneficial though as Carlos Carvalhal masterminded successive wins against Wigan and Bristol City.

Championship 2015/16

Another slow start to the season meant that by mid-September Wednesday were still looking for another win to join their solitary 2-0 victory over Bristol City from the opening weekend.

The international break did not help to turn their fortunes around however, it took one month and eleven days from that first three points to pick up another when Fulham came to Hillsborough.

Championship 2014/15

The start to the 14/15 campaign was a bright one '“ until the final game before the international break the Owls had picked up points in every game. 

Defeat to Nottingham Forest at the end of August obviously didn't sit well with the squad though as they rallied after the break to bag a draw and two wins in their following three matches.
