Adam Reach claimed his third goal in as many outings, scoring a spectacular opener after 16 seconds at Villa Park. Jordan Rhodes doubled their lead in the 23rd minute.

Although Villa piled on the pressure after the break and netted a late consolation through Chris Samba, the Owls held on to secure their first away victory in over two months.

Carvalhal said: "We prepared very well for the game and I think my players did fantastic work.

"My players did absolutely fantastic.

"We created chances, scored two goals. We could have scored more goals.

"We played with quality. I think we performed very well. I don't think that we played better today than in the last three games. I think we have played at the same level in the last three games. The difference is sometimes when we win, it makes a big difference."

“He covers the most distance, he plays every game and we are very pleased to have him at Sheffield Wednesday.”
