Saturday’s 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Bolton Wanderers means the London outfit have won just two of their 14 matches since Hasselbaink took over.

The result moved Rangers, relegated from the Premier League last term, up to 12th in the Championship table, trailing sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, who they take on at Hillsborough tonight, by a whopping 13 points.

Although there are still 14 fixtures remaining, Hasselbaink has conceded he is already planning for the future.

“We want to improve match after match and put our foundations down for the way we want to be – the way we need to be,” said the Dutchman, who led Burton Albion to promotion last season.

“Our mentality, the mentality at the club, the change at the club – we are already starting with that. That is what needs to stream through from the players to the fans.

“It’s not going to be there in one week or in two. We are working. There’s a lot to be done.”

QPR have improved their form on the road this year, picking up six points from their last four clashes away from Hillsborough.

Winger Matt Phillips’ late equaliser rescued Rangers a point at Bolton and former Chelsea star Hasselbaink felt the contest was not a good advert for the division.

“It was two teams who tried but who couldn’t get into their stride. Bolton changed their formation and we had to adjust,” he said. “We tried to get the flow going but we couldn’t. Nor could they. It wasn’t a nice game to see.

“It was not pretty, it was not a classic.”
