Sheffield Wednesday: Hard-working Nuhiu happy to get dirty

Nuhiu played a pivotal role after coming off the bench in Wednesday’s come-from-behind 2-1 success at Birmingham City last weekend.

The giant striker dovetailed effectively with Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri, setting up the first of Hooper’s two goals.

Hooper is the form player in the Championship, having plundered nine goals in his last 10 appearances.

Nuhiu told The Star: “I’m happy Gary is in our team. I enjoy playing next to him and I’m sure he feels the same way.

“I probably do the dirty work which helps him then score the goals.

“I’m happy when we win. I was pleased to play well with Hooper and Forestieri. I came on and I know their strengths.”

Four-goal Nuhiu praised Wednesday’s fighting spirit after they extended their unbeaten league run to six.

“We have a mentality where we never give up,” he said. “The game is only over when the referee blows his whistle.

“We kept believing in ourselves, even after we went behind, as we have players who can make the difference. At Birmingham, it was Gary. It will probably be somebody else in the next game.”

Keiren Westwood is continuing to receive treatment after being stretchered off at St Andrew’s. He suffered head/neck injuries after an accidental collision with Tom Lees.

Sam Hutchinson (knee) will be assessed by Wednesday’s medical staff, but Kieran Lee, who tweaked his back in the warm-up, is expected to be available for selection when Carlos Carvalhal’s side entertain Brentford this weekend.
