Forestieri has struggled to reach the heights of last campaign and been in and out of Wednesday’s side this time around.

But the former Watford forward returned to the starting line-up at Craven Cottage on Saturday and repaid the faith shown in him by boss Carlos Carvalhal by turning in an enterprising display and grabbing his fourth goal this term.

Loovens told The Star: “We know Fernando is a good striker and is very important for us. He was our top-scorer last year.

“As the manager has said, Fernando has been trying to find his way but I think he showed against Fulham that he was on his way back to help the team.

“Hopefully the goal will give Fernando a lift and the push that he needs. He’s a very important player for us if he is at it. He’s so aggressive and explosive at recovering the ball and helping the midfielders out.

“Hopefully he can score a lot more goals.”

Left-back Scott Malone scored in added on time to deny the Owls maximum points and stretch their winless run to three matches.

Striker Gary Hooper left West London on crutches. He was forced off in the second half after picking up an injury and is set to be sent for a scan.

“It seems like a muscular problem but we will analyse him,” said Carvalhal. “Let’s see. We don’t know at the moment.”
