Clare '“ who left Wednesday at the end of last season '“ has signed a three-year deal with the current Scottish Premier League leaders.

And he says he had plenty of options after rejecting the offer of a new deal from the Owls.

'I'm buzzing to be here. I'm really happy to get it done and I'm looking forward to what's to come,' he told the Hearts website.

'There has been interest from England in the Premier League and the Championship.

'I really took my time on the decision, but even before I came up I knew that Hearts was a massive club and you've got really passionate fans and a great fanbase, people who you want to play for so that really attracted me to come up.

'When I did come up and see the manager and Austin they showed me around the facilities, the stadium, and the training ground which is unbelievable.

'They showed me around the more historic parts of the ground, like the memorial garden, and it just really grabbed me.

'There are great facilities to develop and management that really want to push young players and make them better.'

The 21-year-old made five senior appearances for the Owls, scoring one goal.

He was handed an opportunity last season by boss Jos Luhukay after returning from a loan spell at Gillingham but his season was cut short by injury.

Clare's rejection of Wednesday's offer of a new contract will mean Hearts will be forced to pay a set compensation figure based on FIFA guidelines which entitle clubs to funds for players they have developed as youngsters.

The Star understands Wednesday will be owed in the region of £130,000.
