Sheffield Wednesday: In-form Nuhiu questions old Owls boss Carvalhal

Atdhe Nuhiu says he is still unsure why former boss Carlos Carvalhal refused to give him more game-time.

Carvalhal, who left Wednesday on Christmas Eve, largely used Nuhiu as an impact substitute in the final 18 months of his Hillsborough reign.

But the 28-year-old has resurrected his career under Jos Luhukay, finishing as the Owls’ top scorer with 13 goals in all competitions.

Nuhiu, who netted a hat-trick in Sunday’s season finale at home to Norwich City, said: “I cannot say that Carlos Carvalhal, as a coach, was unbelievable for me. He developed players.

“I improved under him but it was a time in his mind or it was his decision not to pick me, Lucas [Joao] or [Frederico] Venancio or these kind of players. Why? You need to ask him. I never asked him why he didn’t pick me. It was his decision.

“Everything started from zero and the new manager came in and I didn’t do anything different from what I had been doing under Carlos.

“I didn’t train differently. I worked in the same way as I had under Carvalhal even if it was hard.”

Nuhiu, out of contract this summer, notched eight goals in his last eight appearances.

“It has been the best goal-scoring run of my career but not performances,” he said.

“I think I was performing well before.

But as a striker, you want to score goals and I’ve managed to do that.”
