Sheffield Wednesday: Forestieri says Owls have still to reach their best

Wednesday’s leading marksman grabbed his 14th goal of the season to ensure the club completed the double over the Terriers for the first time since the 1958-59 campaign.

Saturday’s 1-0 triumph lifted them above Derby County into fifth position with seven matches remaining.

It was the side’s third consecutive Championship success and they set a new club-record of four straight away league clean sheets. Carlos Carvalhal’s in-form charges have now gone six hours without conceding a goal on their travels.

Nonetheless, Forestieri is refusing to get carried away, insisting Wednesday must look to kick on as they prepare to face Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough tomorrow.

The 26-year-old said: “Huddersfield was a very hard game because they defended very well. Our strikers and midfield did not play so good. They are a very similar team to us.

“We were lucky enough to get the win but we need to improve. Every game you learn something. We need to correct some mistakes we did.

“But we need to enjoy this moment and then think about Tuesday as we have seven games this month.”

Forestieri, a promotion winner with Watford, has become the first Owls player to score 14 goals in the top two divisions since Marcus Tudgay seven years ago.

“It’s hard to say whether we are as good as Watford,” he said. “There are lots of very good teams in the Championship but we are on course.”
