Sheffield Wednesday fans column: I won't be booking a date at Wembley just yet

This week the Football League announced the dates for the play-off Semi-Finals.

Championship Match A’s legs will be played on Friday 13th May (ominous date for whoever gets that) and Monday 16th May. Match B’s legs will be played on Saturday 14th May and Tuesday 17th May, with the play-off final on Saturday 28th May.

I’m still hesitating from pencilling them into my diary because it feels like tempting fate. I know people who have already booked hotel rooms in London for the play-off final…just in case. I’m surprised my family haven’t already tried to book our spare room out too.

Wednesday are having a wobble. No win in five and only one goal in 450 minutes of football it isn’t Play-Off form. The lack of goals goes beyond the Forestieri debacle.

A point at Brighton is good but the result against Rotherham was infuriating. I haven’t been that angry walking out of Hillsborough in years.

The Millers result shows that all teams have to do to stop The Owls from playing flowing football is to flood the midfield with players. Because we like to build play from the back the only way for us to move against Rotherham was backwards. It was frustrating.

As I said in last week’s column Rotherham were motivated and we weren’t and the lack of passion on the pitch from the Wednesday team was palpable.

Forestieri is back in contention for Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest and he does bring the passion we need for that promotion push. I hope that his red cards haven’t dented his desire to get forward and that he’s treated fairly by the officials.

If we don’t make it I’d rather end our Play-Off hopes in glorious failure than it peter out in passionless performances. The hoteliers of Wembley don’t want the cancellation admin either.
