For those of you who like cooking there are chef's who experiment with different combinations and those who just follow the recipe.

Carlos Carvalhal comes across as a man who likes chucking in different ingredients but it’s clear he does like to follow a recipe as well.

Against Charlton Athletic he chose to leave out Liam Palmer because we needed a player more “aggressive in attack”.

This recipe didn’t work in the first half against Charlton. Hunt and Wallace saw a lot of the ball but it wasn’t until Carlos added Austrian and Portuguese spices that the play had any real flavour.

Carlos talked this week about sticking to his rotation policy and with the squad we have now it’s sensible to rest players who may be tiring.

You still need the core ingredients in a team but sometimes we become over reliant on them.

We do have a top quality keeper in Kieren Westwood but anyone who has watched him closely recently will have seen him dropping easy catches even when there is no pressure on him.

He’s certainly less confident than last season when the defence was tighter than a Tupperware lunchbox lid.

Kieren also seems to have struggled since he bruised his kidney against Reading back in August.

With Joe Wildsmith getting another call up for international duty maybe he should be mixed into the rotation pot.

Kieran Lee has also looked tired and clumsy in the last few games. With Matias and Lopez both fit and raring to go we don’t have to keep being heavy handed with the amount of Kieran Lee we use. Hopefully a rest during the international break will be beneficial to the whole team.

But it was Nuhiu again who proved that you couldn’t serve a dish without him. He is our salt and pepper.
