Sheffield Wednesday fan's column: All I want for Christmas is something to buy!

Christmas is coming; we know because in the last week we've had about five toy shop catalogues drop on the doormat, tempting the young humans with plastic tat.

We’ve all pestered our parents for stuff in the run-up to Christmas.

I used to fold down the corners in the Argos catalogue and leave it in places where my parents would find it.

Toy companies are very good at creating a buzz around their must-have gifts and making limited runs of the product, so it sells out quickly.

I’m starting to wonder if this was Sheffield Wednesday’s intention by the commercial department with their 150th-anniversary products, only it’s backfired spectacularly.

Over the international period, there has been a swathe of complaints online that a limited edition watch, produced for the anniversary, has been oversold.

The club has apparently taken money from fans but not supplied the product.

Those who have had an email will get a watch but it won’t be limited edition, and it will still cost £150. Genius.

It’s October, and without replica kits and gaffes like this, a businessman like Mr Chansiri must be as embarrassed as we the fans are.

This isn’t a one-off season. There have been complaints for years about the commercial side of the business at Hillsborough.

Low quality, high priced goods from a shop that can only be described as minimalist in its stock levels.

Not to go all Games of Thrones on you but ‘winter is coming’, and that does bring in a profitable season for The Owls.

Fans want to buy gifts for family and friends, and we are handicapping ourselves.

Mr Chansiri has made it clear that the fans have to contribute to the coffers if we are going to achieve our aims of promotion.

We’re trying Mr Chairman, but you can’t spend money on fresh air.
