I would prefer a different model of club ownership, but that’s not how things normally shape up in the UK so I was prepared for something I might not like when Milan Mandaric decided to sell.
I have my doubts about Azerbaijan, but back in June Hafiz Mammadov’s record in football didn’t seen too bad and things were looking up a bit.

Transfer dealings, or the lack of them, have left the squad lacking quality and depth - as it was last season.
Hutch, Kirky and Loovens are welcome but are retentions of what we had.
Westwood looks a good signing and Kelhar was okay pre-season.
We have some good young players - for example, Betra and Stobbs - but are they ready yet?
Antonio wanted to go and the price we got for him was sound - what happens with the cash is key.
As we currently stand we look to have a bottom-eight squad.
Yes we can field a decent starting 11 but there’s very little depth and where will the goals come from?
I saw the pre-season games against Newcastle and Barnsley. The former we should have won given the chances, the latter was a good workout for Kieran Lee, overall though it felt a bit deja vu’ish.
Additional quality in central midfield, out wide and two new strikers will change things but at the moment we will do very well to finish mid-table.
We will all still be there, though, but we deserve a bit more than we’ve had so far.
Optimism is not rife then but let’s not be too gloomy just yet either.
